Teaching With Outschool
With this covid epidemic we have been living under, people who are in the photography industry have had to find something until we are able to take pictures again. I have been teaching online already since September. I started to make some extra money after listening to Dave Ramsey’s tips on getting out of debt. Currently, I only work about 15 hours a week, and make about $3500 a month. Teaching with Outschool has been a lot of fun for me, because I love being challenged and using my creativity!
It’s a bit too busy with my schedule so I haven’t been able to do more classes yet. But I am excited to dive in more, soon! I just need the time to make the classes.
A friend of mine makes $15,000 a MONTH so it’s definitely possibly to make good money on it. There are a lot of factors that go into that-like how many kids you have sign up for your classes, and how many you offer!
Outschool FAQ
What subjects can I teach?
You can teach anything! One great thing about Outschool is that every week they send an email with classes and topics that parents ask for. So if you are unsure on what to teach, you can find ideas that way. I teach photography, art projects, and anything having to do with that genre. I even have classes about cats and we talk about cats the entire time. For a cat lover like me, it’s so much fun! I currently have cooking classes planned, and many more topics as well!
What qualifications are required?
You don’t need a degree to teach with Outschool. However, with some topics, (like health or psychology) a degree or expertise is required. You must be at least 18 years old. You also must live in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, or the UK. The reasoning for this is because of the background check they do. They are always expanding, though. So if your country of residence isn’t on here, be sure to check back. I will be sure to add them to this list!
How long can I teach?
You set the times of your classes. Usually they will be anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. But you can teach shorter, or longer.
How much can I make?
The great thing with Outschool is that you set your prices. You can have up to 20 students in a class, as well. I typically will have no more than 11 students in a class, as I like the personal aspect that smaller classes give. People will usually charge between $5-$15 per student, depending on the content of their lesson and how long the classes last. Outschool takes 30% of what you make. You get paid on PayPal about a week after each class you teach. They also will advertise for you so this is well worth it.
To give a few numbers, I have a friend who makes $5000 a month and works 20 hours a week. Another friend of mine makes $15,000 a month in the summer. One thing I love about Outschool is how much potential there is to do well on there!
What equipment do I need?
You teach the students on Zoom. You can do this on a computer, a phone, or a tablet. I have noticed that teaching on a computer is easier, so I use my laptop. You can even use multiple devices if you want to use one as an extra camera for students to see what you are doing more easily.
How do I apply?
You can click this link to sign up under me. I will help you with your application. You will need to pass your interview, then the background check. Once you pass, I will help you with listing classes, and give tips on how to use the platform.
